Why this tire
- Dual-compound tread: a mileage top layer over an ultra-fuel-efficient base layer that holds casing temperature down. Michelin measures 5% better rolling resistance than the XZA3+ EVERTREAD it replaces (ISO 28580, tested in 275/80R22.5).
- Decoupling groove and directional miniature groove-wall sipes provide even wear. Directional tread for the first half of life: keep the arrows on an axle facing the same direction and rotate at half life.
- EPA SmartWay verified and approved for use on SmartWay certified equipment; meets California CARB requirements.
- Michelin guarantees 20% more mileage than leading competitor line-haul steer tires; guarantee terms are published by Michelin (business.michelinman.com, Toolbox, Reference Documents).
- 7-year, 700,000-mile, 3-retread limited casing warranty, valid only when the retread is done by an authorized Michelin Retread Technologies (MRT) dealer.
- 19/32 tread in every build we quote (11R22.5 in 14 and 16 ply, 11R24.5 in 16 ply), regroovable 2 mm, speed symbol L (75 mph).

Michelin's own published data-book figures. Dimensions are measured on the maker's design rim — mount on a different approved width and they shift slightly. Minimum dual spacing is the centre-to-centre clearance your chassis needs to run these as duals; check it before switching sizes. Send us the part number and we'll quote that exact tire.
Long highway miles on a steer axle, on a truck that gets judged on fuel as hard as it gets judged on tread. That is the job this tire is built for. Michelin files the X Line Energy Z as a steer and all-position tire and prints its application band as Line Haul and Bus/RV. We quote it in two sizes, three builds: 11R22.5 in 14 ply (load range G, 144/142 L, 105 psi), 11R22.5 in 16 ply (load range H, 146/143 L, 120 psi), and 11R24.5 in 16 ply (load range H, 149/146 L, 120 psi). All three run 19/32 of tread and are speed rated L, which is 75 mph.
The tread is two compounds stacked. The top layer is the mileage layer. Under it sits an ultra-fuel-efficient base layer that does one job: hold casing temperature down. A cool casing is where both the low rolling resistance and the long casing life come from. At the shoulder, a decoupling groove and directional miniature groove-wall sipes provide even wear. The tread is directional for the first half of its life, so every arrow on an axle points the same way, and Michelin calls for a rotation at half life. The casing is regroovable to a published 2 mm, and Michelin’s limited casing warranty on that casing runs 7 years, 700,000 miles or 3 retreads — but only when an authorized Michelin Retread Technologies (MRT) dealer does the retread.
Now what it is not. It is not a drive tire and not a trailer tire. Steer and all-position only. It is not a winter tire either: Michelin’s own size data shows no 3PMSF and no M+S marking on any of the builds we quote, so keep it out of severe-snow lanes. It is not built for on/off-road, urban stop-and-go, refuse or other high-scrub duty; Michelin puts that work on other lines. On sizes, disqualify yourself before you request a quote if you need one of these: there is no 285/75R24.5 and no 295/75R22.5 in this model, and 11R24.5 comes in 16 ply only. If you want a Michelin line-haul steer in 295/75R22.5, that is the X Line Energy Z+, a different tire. Bus and coach operators, note 49 CFR 393.75: no regrooved, recapped or retreaded tires on the front wheels of a bus, so the retread value in this casing gets taken on drive or trailer positions, not back on a bus steer axle.
If the axle job is the same and you want a second tire on the same quote, ask us about the Invovic FM303, our factory-direct steer and all-position radial, molded in Cambodia. It goes where the Michelin does not in exactly one place: 295/75R22.5, a size Michelin does not build in this model. That is also the only size it comes in, so an 11R22.5 or 11R24.5 steer axle is a Michelin job here. The rest of the comparison runs the other way and we will not dress it up. The FM303 carries 14/32 of tread against this tire’s 19/32. It is not EPA SmartWay verified, no published mileage guarantee stands behind it, and there is no Michelin Retread Technologies casing warranty on the back end. If you get paid on fuel programs and sell casings at the end of the first life, the SmartWay verification and the MRT casing warranty — with its authorized-retreader condition — are the parts of the Michelin you are actually buying. Tell us the truck, the lane and the axle, put both tires on one quote, and compare the two all-in delivered numbers we send back.
